I'm a little late in posting this, my intentions were to have it posted 2 weeks before Christmas but that didn't happen. This would work for any holiday, you can use jars, terracotta pots, baskets or buckets. We used 1/2 gallon
huge mason jars that we found at Orchard Supply Hardware.
Each year I make handmade gifts for friends & family. I am part of an amazing online group of "cookie ladies" that share the same love I do for decorated cookies. We share tips, post pictures, share ideas and have become a tight knit group over the last 6 months. One day there was a post about cookie jars and I knew they would be a perfect gift to give this year.
I mentioned the cookie jar idea to my friend Kim on our aftework walk one night. We teamed up with my Grams and each of us baked 2-3 different types of mini sized cookies so we would be able to fit 4-5 dozen in each jar. Kim made her Grandma's Spritzer Cookies & Oatmeal Raisin Coconut Chocolate Chip Cookies, Grams made Amish Sugar Cookies, Ginger Snaps and Oatmeal Raisin, and I baked cut out cookies to make each jar festive (see below), Chocolate Chip Oatmeal & Snickerdoodles. We all made about 600 mini cookies but were afraid we didn't have enough to fill our 28 jars. When we finished we actually had more than enough and filled a few quart jars with the "leftovers". Working as a team made this project so fun. We all baked at home and then got together on the 16th of December to stuff our jars. It took us about 2 hours to fill 28 jars full of a mixed variety of cookies.
6-7 decorated cookies went in each jar
Each cookie was 1.25" in diameter
We hit Michael's the day after Thanksgiving
and found a great selection of Christmas ribbon
Homemade tags made the cookie jar complete
Hope you had a wonderful Christmas
A Happy New Year!
