Minnie Mouse for Sophia's 1st Birthday

Finally a Minnie Mouse party!  My friend picked up Mickey/Minnie cutters at Disneyland last time she was there.  The cutters worked perfect to make Minnie heads.

Happy 1st Birthday Sophia!

Happy 85th to my Granny!

Happy 85th to my GRANNY!
My Granny is one in a million.. she has always been there for me no matter what.
I took her birthday cupcakes to her on Thursday, the day I pick her up and take her for a walk down at the beach.   She loves it down there.. sometimes it's hard to leave.

Last weekend my friend, Savanna (age 13) came over for a "Girl's Day".   She made a bunch of flowers for my Granny's cupcakes! They came out awesome.  She is a crafty girl.  It was fun to spend some time with her one on one.

Strawberry Dessert

I love summer fruits... strawberries, plums, nectarines, apricots, watermelons... I could go on and on but those are come of my favorite things.
I stopped by a local produce stand Saturday and picked up 1/2 a flat of strawberries. I was going to make a strawberry crisp but our temps were in the 80's and it was too hot to have the oven on for an hour.   I decided to make poundcake & top with strawberries and cream.   The strawberries were picked that morning, so fresh and sweet! I sliced them up and put them on top of a piece of poundake..then whipped up some whipping cream for a delish dessert to share with our friends.   I made strawberry filling with the rest of them for a cake that I'm going to bake sometime this week.

  • 1/2 pound (2 sticks) butter, plus more for pan
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for pan
  • 1/2 teaspoon fine salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
With a mixer, cream butter and shortening together. Add sugar, a little at a time. Add eggs, 1 at a time, beating after each addition. Stir dry ingredients together in a bowl and add to mixer alternately with milk, starting with the flour and ending with the flour. Mix in vanilla. Pour into a greased and floured tube pan and bake for 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until a toothpick inserted in the center of the cake comes out clean.

Happy 4th of July

SweetSugarBelle inspired me to make these for the 4th of July.   I didn't have the star stencil that she used so I left my cupcake liners plain.

and I had a box of rice krispies so I made some treats and added red/blue jimmies

Bikini Cookies

With our recent warm days, I tried to make some bikini tops.  Now I just need to find time to do some bottoms to go with the tops.   Pretty easy, I used a heart cutter & turned it upside down.

Love Americolor Black dye, so much easier to use vs. Wilton
