Wilson - Marrs Wedding Cupcakes

Cupcake table

If you’ve been following my blog for the last 6 months you will remember me mentioning my cousin’s wedding. We just returned from the wedding and it was absolutely gorgeous! The details were amazing… the bride's sister, Jenifer, of  I Do Wedding Services hand-painted terra cotta pots that served as place cards for each guest, the music played by the bride’s brother in law, Fred, of A Great Time DJ, to the delicious food, cascarones, flowers, centerpieces…. bursts of color throughout the entire location and the location, the groom’s family home… PERFECT. So much love was poured into this wedding. It was incredible! Tritia & Collan looked so happy!

Tritia & Collan met years ago at a local festival called Old Spanish Days also known as Fiesta and wanted to have a Fiesta themed reception. With the help from her sister the Fiesta themed reception was planned.  It was hard to visualize so many colors incorporated into a wedding but when all said and done..it was amazing.  When they announced their engagement I offered to make invitations & wedding cupcakes as their wedding gift from us. About a month ago we met to talk about cupcake decorations and flavors they decided on dahlias, 5 petal flowers and custom fondant confetti in the same colors as the flowers. I wasn't nervous about making flowers or cupcakes but I was at wee bit nervous at the thought of transporting 192 cupcakes, a small cake, frosting, fondant flowers and all my decorating supplies 400 miles north of Santa Barbara with out a catastrophe. Fortunately we found an Extended Stay near the reception site with a kitchenette so I could bake & make my frosting at home then put them together in my hotel room. Transporting cakes & cupcakes is often difficult. Cardboard cake boxes are fine for short distance but not much more than 50 miles. I found Sterilite Clip boxes at Walmart & Target and bought 16 of them. I used 3 cupcake couriers to hold 3 dozen cupcakes each plus 18 Sterilite Clip boxes to transport the rest of the cupcakes and fondant flowers. Everything made it in perfect condition.

We had lots of different cupcake flavors....lemon with strawberry filling, Margarita, lemon with raspberry swirl, lemon, red velvet, carrot, vanilla with raspberry swirl, vanilla, chocolate and chocolate with creme filling.  The cake was a 3 layer yellow cake with homemade strawberry filling.

Once we arrived I immediately went to work. I rewhipped my buttercream with my hand mixer to give it more volume. Frosting & decorating went very quickly. After 2 ½ hours I was done. We repacked them in the carriers and were ready for a good night sleep.

On Saturday Julio & I loaded the cupcakes up and headed to the reception site to set up. It took us about 20 minutes to set up all the cupcakes.  The groom's mother had bought pedestals to stand on the side of the cupcake stand I made. The colors looked fabulous!
